Our teachers at School for A Course in Miracles (SFACIM) are able to help others because they have worked long and hard on their own journey back to the mind. (To see their bios, click on “About” heading at the top of this page.)
The teacher and the pupil are at the same order of learning. Both aim to learn that they are a mind and only mind, and that the mind can be changed to serve a different master. Both are learning from the same Teacher. Perhaps our School’s teachers are a half a step ahead of their pupils in their lessons of humility, but that’s all.
“When pupil and teacher come together, a teaching-learning situation begins. For the teacher is not really the one who does the teaching. God’s Teacher speaks to any two who join together for learning purposes.” (M.2.5:1-3)
Should you choose a pupil/teacher relationship with us as a way of learning your lessons of forgiveness, know that our SFACIM teachers are committed to demonstrating:
- devotion to healing our minds
- belief in the students we teach. (Jesus says “I love you for the truth in you.”)
- the benefits of forgiveness
- patience: willingness to repeat a single message over and over until it is learned
The goal of the teacher is always to free the student from the need for an external teacher.
Ultimately the pupil/teacher relationship in form becomes a reflection of the real relationship in their minds with the Inner Teacher they share.
“ The demarcations they (pupil and teacher) have drawn between their roles, their minds, their bodies, their needs, their interests, and all the differences they thought separated them from one another, fade and grow dim and disappear. Those who would learn the same course share one interest and one goal.” (M.2.5:6-7)
Benefits of Learning Forgiveness
Here are some of the benefits we have recognized as we continue to learn together:
- We develop the ability to choose to end suffering in ourselves.
- We begin to trust “God’s will for me is perfect happiness”. (W. L. 101)
- We cultivate a charitable attitude toward all.
- We learn we are not healed alone.
- We recognize the real meaning and purpose of life.
- We know what is valuable and what is not.
- We are dedicated to a single goal.
- In place of a depressing prison, we see the world as a happy classroom.
Teachers of God
The fundamental level of teaching-learning that SFACIM offers is developing teachers of God who can forgive the world the illusions they have laid upon it. Once forgiveness is learned the student knows how to proceed and no longer needs an external teacher. He has found his own Inner Teacher. The Manual defines teachers of God as those who demonstrate forgiveness. We focus on initiating and developing this “demonstration” to others and to ourselves in the Course Immersion Part One intensive.
Teachers of the Course
Not all teachers of God are interested in teaching the Course material to others, but for those who are the School offers the Course Immersion Part Two. It is a 6 month-long practice teaching program in which would-be teachers fine tune their understanding of the metaphysics of the Course by teaching them to their peers and sharing the application in their daily classrooms.
“This can be taught by actions or thoughts; in words or soundlessly; in any language or in no language; in any place or time or manner.” The central message is always this: “God’s Son is guiltless, and his innocence is his salvation.”(M.1.3:5-6)
